About Aurora

Hi, and welcome to Aurora Candles, thank you for taking the time to visit.

My name is Steph and I am the creator behind Aurora Candles. The spark was ignited years ago when I walked into my friends house to be intriged by this amazing smell. A candle that smelt so good it filled the room without even being lit ( I later learnt this was Black Raspberry and Vanilla, a common candle flavour which I tweaked to my own unique recipe and named her "Sugar Plum").  I quickly went online to order some products to make my own, however with two small boys at my feet it was difficult to find the time or energy. It wasn't until a few years later when I was working for a Boutique in Nelson and they were looking for some gift ideas for the shop, my ears perked up when she said "candles" and it was all go from there. 

My talented sister became my graphic designer and lovingly spent hours creating some amazing branding and Aurora was born. We managed to get some candles into the shop just in time for Christmas but that was just the beginning. I spent the following 8 months going back to square one, perfecting scents, testing waxes & wicks, designing logos and packaging and sourcing some beautiful jars, before Aurora was re-launched and available to everyone, not just friends and family.

My sons are both at school now and I'm loving being able to live out my passion for business and being creative.

I use to light a candle after the kids went to bed as a sort of celebratory "you made it through another day" kind of moment. It felt like a reward of sorts, add in a cup of tea or a bit of mindful meditation and you have the perfect recipe for happiness in my opinion.

I have always been a perfume lover, at one point in my 20's my collection was similar to that of a small pharmacy, my friends use to love getting ready at my house and having such a selection to choose from. I was also an avid candle and reed diffuser collector, every room had a scent and it was a continuous pleasant experience wherever you turned. It somehow made my house feel more beautiful than it was. My sisters and I also live in different cities and use to have a Christmas tradition where we all bought the same diffuser so we could feel more connected via the same smell.

It's no secret we associate smells with memories, so anytime I light one of my candles it brings me back to a feeling of content, which is why I get so much joy out of seeing others enjoying my candles too. Please follow us on facebook and instagram and tag us @auroracandlesnz.
